Combining a narrative exploration of Southern Gothic terror with investigations into the city’s real-life folklore, THE VAMPIRES OF NEW ORLEANS is a journey into and out of the vampire phenomenon of a city with bloodshed embedded deep in its past, present, and future. Director Andrew Rakich, whose previous film THE SUDBURY DEVIL (2023) premiered in Australia at the Pink Flamingo Cinema, shot the film on location in New Orleans to capture the singular nature of the city and its denizens reflected in their popular vampiric mythology and their true life history as those two notions crash into each other. Filmed guerilla style across the city’s many spooky locales, including a real abandoned mental hospital, it’s a historical epic for the YouTube age.
